Broken Chains, Hope Remains: End Sex Trafficking

"The spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free." -Luke 4:18

I first became interested in human trafficking and the sex trade in World Geography of my freshman year. We were discussing global issues and watched a documentary about European women who were trapped in the sex trafficking industry. I could feel my heart breaking as I heard their screams and cries of utter desperation, hurt, pain, and fear. It's easy to imagine these situations only occurring in third-world countries, but what you may not realize is 14,500-17,500 people are trafficked annually in the U.S. alone (CNN Freedom Project). I-35, one of the main "border to border" highways in the U.S., runs directly through my town and is a prime hotspot for transporting victims.

If you aren't familiar with human trafficking and modern day slavery, there are two kinds: Being sold for labor and being sold for sex. Worldwide, 27 MILLION people are trapped in human trafficking; 21,330,000 of those victims are sex slaves.

27 million people is equal to the entire population of the state of Texas.

27 million people, holding hands, could circle the globe one time.

27 million people could fill every professional football stadium 12 times. (End It Movement)

27 million people who are suffering right now because we fail to acknowledge that modern slavery still exists.

Okay, so maybe we do acknowledge it. How are we going to fix it? After all, you and I are just a few people from Kansas who want to make a difference.

I am partnering with ICT-SOS, an organization that works hand in hand with professionals to help end human trafficking in Wichita. I hope to shine a light on this issue through raising awareness and money to help rescue and restore victims. More to come soon about upcoming campaigns and events!!

Join me in the fight to end sex trafficking and follow me on my journey.
